Flying Tourbillon No. 7

Flying tourbillon with unique, gold guilloche dial and moon phase

Description

The tourbillon (lyric shaped) is located above the lower mainplate, with an opening underneath, making it visible from all angles. The flying Tourbillon and the connected wheel (flying third wheel) are mounted into separate ball bearings and held by one bridge. This allows the removal of extra bridges to increase visibility. Like all of Christian’s timepieces, 80% of the parts, including plates, bridges, some wheels, dial case, crown, hands, and tourbillon cage, are handcrafted with the support of simple machinery or hand tools that date back to 19th century. The decoration, guilloche work and engraving are also carried out by hand with the support of simple machinery. The sculpturing and anglage of bridges with simple hand tools, like flexshaft, file, or polishing sticks, requires years of practice to finish the parts to the desired perfection. The manufacture of the flying tourbillon required approx. 1500 hours of work.
